Chasing The Perfect Scent
The two-time Grammy winner admits to Vogue that she has loved the scent of vanilla since she learned to bake as a kid. Billie also experiences a condition called synesthesia, a perceptual phenomenon where various senses are activated simultaneously. In her case, she perceives smells as colors and associates everything through her nose.
The singer has been on a mission to find the perfect vanilla scent for a long time. “I went everywhere, I went to Macy’s, I went to a perfumer, I went all over duty-free on tour, and I never found anything,” she says in a statement.
Eilish has, at last, created a vegan perfume with her favorite “amber-colored” scents.
Scents From The Past
Eilish is not the lone experiencer of synesthesia. She finds a fellow synesthete in her father, who she watched make a collection of little paper perfume inserts from their pages that they would then review together.
“We’d both tell each other what, physically, the smell made us think of,” she recalls in an interview, sharing examples like “sitting in a cardboard box by a pool.”
The Creative Process
The perfect scent by Eilish was created with a lot of back-and-forth in the midst of a pandemic. Even so, she had complete creative control over the process.
When it comes to the design of the bottle, which is an elegant metallic silhouette of a bust, Billie Eilish stuck to her infatuation with collar bones and bodies.
“I didn’t want to have it be a certain body type,” she says about her choice not to include a full silhouette. Eilish markets the fragrance as suited for everyone, and implies the same intention with the design.

Eilish, being keen on smells, has explored various fragrances looking for “the one” before creating her own signature scent.
Among them have been CVS fragrances, Gucci Premiere, and a mysterious Burberry scent which she associates with darker times in her life.
For Eilish, fragrances contain memories, perhaps to a much greater degree. “I have another one by Juliette Has A Gun, and I wore that on a trip with my best friend and we had such a good time that I can’t wear it now”, she says in a statement.
