Actress and animal rights activist Pamela Anderson has teamed up with cruelty-free French fashion house Ashoka Paris to debut her second collection of luxury vegan handbags made from apple skin leather.
Pamela Anderson is a longtime activist who uses her platform to promote veganism and has multiple campaigns with PETA. The star has been working with the brand since January 2019 alongside designer David Mateo and the designs were conceived over a period of 16 months.
Their first collective launch of handbags last year was a thriving success and inspired by Pamela Anderson winning the 2018 PETA Award for ‘Personality of the Year’ while Ashoka Paris claimed the 2018 PETA Award for ‘Best Vegan Bag’.
About The New Capsule Collection
The new PETA-approved collection features four bags made from apple skin leather, a revolutionary biodegradable material that is crafted using apple waste obtained from northern Italy.
Apple leather is made using the cores and skins discarded from the industrial food industry. The wasted fruit scraps are gathered together, juiced, and naturally dried into a fine powder. The fine powder is then blended with a resin-like material and is dried, producing a flexible leather-like sheet.
The bags come in four colors nude, noir, terracotta, and rouge of which the subtle nude and the intense terracotta are custom-made. The collection is distinguished by its original, brushed and golden clasps, its embossed messages, and its Pop Art lining.
The “lips” lining in the collection comes in a Pop Art style and takes up Pamela’s stylized lips, as well as her slogan “RESISTE!”. Each bag is embossed with a message that reads, “Resiste! (Resist). Inside every beautiful person is an activist wanting to defend the planet”. Like all the liners used by Ashoka Paris, it is made from plastic from recycled bottles.
Giving Back To The Cause
As per the collaboration, Ashoka Paris will donate a portion of the sales to the Pamela Anderson Foundation which functions to support human rights, animals rights, and the environment.
Ashoka Paris and Pamila Anderson are also holding a giveaway with PETA UK where the winner will get their hands on an uber-chic bag in the color they’d like.
A Step For A Future
“Changing mentalities, defending victims, delivering justice, challenging politics … for 25 years, Pamela Anderson has been supporting those who are on the front line to protect human, animal, and environmental rights,” Ashoka Paris wrote in a statement. “Working on this vegan bag project with Pamela, a global celebrity and committed activist, is an honor and a fabulous experience. Behind the star we discovered an intelligent, approachable, sincere, and creative woman who is brimming with ideas and energy. It is this singularity that we have managed to express through this Pamela Anderson x Ashoka Paris collection.”
A growing number of fashion brands are turning to alternative plant-based materials like mushroom leather, cactus leather, and more in an attempt to provide a growing number of conscious consumers with vegan and cruelty-free fashion.
