Autumn has arrived, and so has something we’ve been waiting for: the launch of vegan UGGs! Yes, you heard that right.

Known for their iconic sheepskin styles, Australian brand UGG is now making strides toward sustainability with plant-based materials and recycled fabrics.

The latest release features floral-printed boots in collaboration with New York-based fashion label Collina Strada, adding a bold, fresh twist to the classic UGG look.

A Fresh Collaboration with Collina Strada

Collina Strada, a brand known for its commitment to sustainability and social activism, has worked with UGG on this collection to create a range of boots that are fun, expressive, and eco-conscious.

Designer Hillary Taymour, founder of Collina Strada, is focused on keeping the brand sustainable and transparent. This collaboration is an extension of that vision, bringing together ethical fashion and bold, creative design.

From Sheepskin to Sugarcane

The collection includes Mini Platform Boots, Ruffle Boots, and Thigh-High Sock Boots, ranging in price from $160 to $220.

Made with innovative materials like a sugarcane EVA midsole and faux fur crafted from tree pulp (TENCEL™), the boots combine both style and sustainability.

Recycled polyester and plant-based synthetic coatings further reduce their environmental impact. The floral prints and ruffles create a playful aesthetic, while the plant-based materials offer a more ethical alternative to traditional UGGs.

Not UGG’s First Rodeo in Vegan Footwear

While this collection may be the latest release, it’s not UGG’s first experiment with vegan footwear.

The brand’s Plant Power Collection introduced fluffy sandals and natural boots made from plant-based materials such as hemp, cotton, and Hevea rubber.

Their SugarSole™ outsole, made from renewable sugarcane, is a highlight of this collection as well, and UGG emphasizes that the designs are carbon-neutral.

The Ethical Dilemma of Traditional UGGs

UGG’s traditional boots are made from sheepskin, which has long been criticized for its environmental and ethical impact.

Although UGG says it is working with farms practicing “regenerative agriculture,” the use of animal products remains problematic for many consumers. With this vegan collection, UGG is responding to the growing demand for more ethical fashion options.

A Step in the Right Direction

While UGG’s journey to sustainability isn’t complete, the launch of this vegan collection is an encouraging sign.

We hope this move signals a larger shift toward plant-based materials in their future offerings. For now, it’s good to see UGG expanding its range to include more conscious, cruelty-free choices.
